About the project

We led the community engagement for this industrial site on the edge of Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and very near to the make:good studio. It was a site that people had some preconceived ideas of so we knew we needed to devise a strategy that set out some clear messages about the intention of the work and provide a wide range of opportunities for people to participate so that we reached a large and representative group of people. We compiled an extensive stakeholder list and wrote to all of them to invite them to a one-to-one and/or asked if we could tag on to their group. This broad outreach allowed us to deliver 15 one-to-one converstations, 12 tag on activites, 11 drop in exhibitions over 3 project stages, a young designers programme and 2 community led walkabouts. All in person activites were mirrored on our online platform. We translated initial feedback into a community brief and used this to asses whether the designs met the community brief acros 2 design exhibitions. Our enagement over a ten month period led to 735 people participating, 100% of participants agreed with the majority of the design ideas in the outline application and 95% of participants agreeing that designs met the community brief.
