Knights Walk Estate

March 2016 - December 2018

We led the resident engagement for the partial redevelopment of a 33 homes estate. This involved the demolition of 18 low rise homes with the surrounding properties retained and up to 64 additional homes provided (a total of 82 new homes) including an initial infill approach. Catherine devised and led the approach to ensure that residents are informed, involved and have influence over the design and redevelopment of their estate.

About the project

We led the resident engagement for the partial redevelopment of a 33 homes estate. This involved the demolition of 18 low rise homes with the istudy trips and exhibitions allowed local residents to have as much influence as possible over the change to their homes. Central to the approach was a beautifully designed and well attended engagement hub, with a community garden that allow residents to access information and activities in both formal and informal settings that have meaningful project and social value with improved relationships and opportunities to socialise being embedded in the community.demolition of 18 low rise homes with the surrounding properties retained and up to 64 additional homes provided (a total of 82 new homes) including an initial infill approach. Catherine devised and led the approach to ensure that residents are informed, involved and have influence over the design and redevelopment of their estate. A feedback loop was established early on using a website, mailing list and newspaper to share information and findings as often as possible to give people a chance to tell us if they thought feedback was being accurately reflected and to make additional comments. Feedback from activities, meetings, study trips and exhibitions allowed local residents to have as much influence as possible over the change to their homes Central to the approach was a beautifully designed and well attended engagement hub, with a community garden that allow residents to access information and activities in both formal and informal settings that have meaningful project and social value with improved relationships and opportunities to socialise being embedded in the community.
